Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure Procedure

Starting May 27, 2024, all local utilities will follow a streamlined process for EV charging connections making it easier to set up new charging stations and support the adoption of electric vehicles in Ontario.

Procedure is applicable to:

non-residential customer applications including Level 2 and Level 3 charging stations, such as publicly accessible direct current fast charging stations, workplace charging, charging stations used for commercial EV fleets and charging installations for multi-unit residential or commercial buildings, where the EV chargers are owned or operated by the building owner or a third-party charging provider; and

the primary purpose of the new or expanded connection must be specific to an electric vehicle charging station.

Benefits of EV Charging Infrastructure include:

streamlined procedures that all local utilities must follow for installing and connecting new EV charging infrastructure including the implementation of standardized forms, timelines, and information requirements which will make it easier for EV charging providers to deploy chargers in all regions of the province.

  • increased accessibility to public EV charging stations across the province.
  • changing the province’s electricity infrastructure to support the adoption of electric vehicles in Ontario.

EV Charger Application Instructions

Note: These instructions are for non-residential EVSE Connections.

If you are applying for a residential EV Charger, please apply using an Electrical Service Form

1. EV Preliminary Consultation Information Request (EVPCIR)

To apply for an Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Connection, an EV Preliminary Consultation Information Request (EVPCIR) is required.

Submit your completed EVPCIR to EVConnection@haltonhillshydro.com

2. Electrical Service Form

Apply with an Electrical Service Form.

3. Halton Hills Hydro Review your Application

Halton Hills Hydro will:

  • Review the EVPCIR to confirm all required information is given
  • Review the Electrical Service Form Application to confirm all required information is given
  • Confirm the payment with the Electrical Service Form Application (payment details in Electrical Service Form Application)

    4. Offer to Connect Form

    Once Halton Hills Hydro has reviewed your application, we’ll determine if your Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) causes changes to our distribution system.

    If so, Halton Hills Hydro will provide an Offer to Connect form.

    If an Offer to Connect form is required, please sign and return this form to the Halton Hills Hydro employee that sent it to you.

    5. Project Development, Construction, and Energization

    The customer develops and constructs the EV Installation. Halton Hills Hydro will make adjustments to our distribution system if necessary.

    Once both have completed their work, and a Connection Authorization Form from ESA (Electrical Safety Authority) is received, Halton Hills Hydro will connect your EVSE.
