Saturday September 26 from 9 pm to 9 am

Hydro One will be completing planned transmission work related to the Highway 413 project on Saturday September 26 from 9 pm to 9 am.  During this period, two major transmission lines that normally supply approximately two-thirds of Georgetown and its surrounding area’s electricity will be temporarily removed from service.

As a result, the amount of electricity available to Georgetown and its surrounding areas will be reduced for the duration of the work. At this time, a power outage is not expected. Our goal is to maintain electricity service throughout the planned work. However, if community electricity demand exceeds the reduced supply capacity available during the planned transmission work window, some customers may experience a temporary power interruption to protect the stability and reliability of the electrical system.

Customers are encouraged to plan accordingly and reduce their electricity consumption during the planned transmission work. Reducing energy use during this period will help lessen demand on the electrical system and minimize the potential for service interruptions.

RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS

• Make sure your appliances, such as the stove, are in the off position
• Use a battery-powered alarm clock or cellphone to ensure you do not miss any morning alarms due to clocks resetting
• Charge cell phones, laptops, power banks, and other essential devices
• If you rely on electrically powered medical equipment, ensure you have a backup power source or alternative arrangements in place
• Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to help preserve food
• Unplug sensitive electronics, such as computers, televisions, and gaming systems, to protect them from power fluctuations when service is restored
• Ensure flashlights, batteries, and emergency supplies are easy to access
• If you have an automatic garage door opener, know how to operate it manually
• Businesses should activate business continuity plans and ensure backup systems are operational
• If using a generator, operate it outdoors only and follow all manufacturer safety instructions
• Leave one light switched on so you’ll know when power has been restored
• Visit our website and social media channels for updates before, during, and after the planned transmission work
• Turn off pool and hot tub filtration system and heaters overnight
• When driving, treat intersections as all way stops
• If you are on a well, fill some containers with water in advance of the planned transmission work for drinking, flushing, etc

BUSINESS CUSTOMERS

We recommend that you:

• Review your business continuity and emergency response plans
• Ensure backup generators and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems are operational and have adequate fuel supplies
• Identify critical equipment and processes that may be affected by a loss of power
• Notify employees, tenants, contractors, and customers who may be impacted
• Complete or reschedule critical business activities before the planned transmission work begins
• Protect sensitive electronic equipment by following manufacturer shutdown procedures
• Verify emergency lighting, security systems, telecommunications equipment, and access control systems are functioning properly
• If applicable, ensure refrigeration, data storage, medical equipment, manufacturing processes, and other critical operations have appropriate contingency plans in place
• Update Halton Hills Hydro with current primary and secondary emergency contact information to ensure the planned transmission work-related communications are received promptly

During the Planned Work

• Keep non-essential electrical loads disconnected until power is restored
• Monitor communications from Halton Hills Hydro for updates
• Contact your internal emergency response team if operational issues arise

After Power Restoration

• Restore equipment gradually to avoid excessive power demand
• Inspect critical systems before returning to normal operations

In the event of a power outage and service has been restored, but you are still without power, first check your electrical panel and any internal equipment.
